Seafood Champion Awards
First presented in 2006, the Seafood Champion Awards annually recognize individuals and companies for outstanding leadership in promoting environmentally responsible seafood. Seafood Choices established the award to honor those in the seafood industry whose past and/or present contributions demonstrate a commitment to innovation that leads to change.

Nominees may include individuals, companies or organizations from the fishing, aquaculture, seafood supply and distribution, retail, restaurant and foodservice sectors, as well as other stakeholders in the seafood industry such as conservation, academia, policy/government and the media.
Nominations that represent the full diversity of international seafood sustainability progress are encouraged – champions large and small!
Candidates may be nominated by others or may self-nominate.
Please note, transparency and integrity are important to all Seafood Champions nominations:
- Self-nominations must include 2 supporting letters from 3rd party individuals/organisations and explanation of the relationships between the nominee and supporters*
- 3rd party nominations must include 1 additional supporting letter from another 3rd party individual/organisation, plus a letter of consent from the nominee themselves which confirms they verify the content of the nomination*
*Supporting documents must be kept to a maximum of 200 words, and should be sent to krootesmurdy@seaweb.org, subject line “Supporting materials for Seafood Champion nomination for: [fill in your nomination].”
Recipients of a previous Seafood Champion Award may not be considered for a subsequent award within five years of receiving their initial award. Finalists or candidates from previous years may be considered for the current year, but should show demonstrable progress in further advancing seafood sustainability goals.

All Seafood Champion winners will be widely celebrated through outreach to media and SeaWeb’s networks.Winners will also be celebrated in September 2012 at the Seafood Summit in Hong Kong. For more information about the 2012 Seafood Summit visit us at www.seafoodsummit.org
Judges
Nominations will first be evaluated by the SeaWeb-Seafood Choices team to narrow the pool of candidates. Next an independent panel of judges will review the shortlisted nominees to select the overall Seafood Champions.
Criteria
Nominations should demonstrate how the nominee has contributed to all three aspects of sustainability - Environmental, Social and Economic.
Please remember Seafood Champions is about recognizing outstanding contributions to seafood sustainability - those ambassadors who innovate and advance above and beyond best practice.

INITIATIVES and ACTION
What methods or tactics (specific examples) has the nominee used to advance seafood sustainability? [max 200 words]
INSPIRE and INFLUENCE
How has the nominee encouraged wider reform or progress amongst others?

IMPACT
What are the tangible seafood sustainability outcomes of the nominee’s Initiatives and Action, Inspiration and Influence? [5 bullet points]
